Graceland Project: Enhancing Our Community One Step at a Time

Graceland Project: Enhancing Our Community One Step at a Time

The City of Abbeville is making great strides in improving infrastructure, and one of the most exciting developments is the Graceland Ave Sidewalk and Overlay Project. This initiative is set to enhance pedestrian accessibility and road conditions along Graceland Avenue, spanning from N. State Street to Lyman Street. Funded through the State Overlay Project Funding Grant, this project is a testament to our commitment to progress and community betterment.

June: Project Announcement

In June, the Abbeville City Council awarded the contract for the Graceland Project, paving the way for significant infrastructure improvements. Residents were informed that work would soon begin, promising newly constructed sidewalks and a full overlay of the existing road. This project aimed to provide a safer, smoother experience for both pedestrians and drivers, setting the stage for a more accessible and modernized area.

September: Project Kickoff

Graceland Project has officially kicked off! The culverts have been delivered, and crews are working hard, laying them in the ditches from State Street to Lyman along Graceland.

December: Sidewalks Poured

By December, the Graceland Project was well underway, with visible transformations taking shape. The installation of ADA-compliant sidewalks, new culverts, and the groundwork for a fresh road overlay marked major milestones. The first section of sidewalks was successfully poured, moving the project one step closer to completion.

At this stage, the city outlined the next steps:

  • Continued sidewalk construction, with additional sections being poured.
  • Preparation for the final street overlay once sidewalk work was complete.

February: ADA Crosswalks Installed & Final Sidewalk Work Underway

Fast forward to February, and the Graceland Project is entering its final phase of the sidewalk installation. Crews are ensuring all pathways comply with ADA standards to improve accessibility for all residents. Additionally, drain covers will be installed, addressing important safety and drainage concerns.

March: Overlay Brings Project Near Completion

We’re excited to share that the Graceland roadway has officially been milled and freshly overlaid! With this milestone complete, the project is now just steps away from full completion. From ADA-compliant sidewalks to a smooth, durable road surface, every aspect of the Graceland Project has focused on enhancing safety and accessibility for all. The final improvements will make travel more efficient and enjoyable for both motorists and pedestrians.

Thank You for Your Support!

Infrastructure projects like the Graceland Project take time, effort, and patience, and we are incredibly grateful for the community’s support throughout this process. The improvements to Graceland Avenue will benefit residents for years to come, creating a safer and more accessible environment for all.
