Fire Chief · Doris Langlinais, Jr.

The Abbeville Fire Department provides fire protection and emergency response services to the residents and businesses of Abbeville. The department maintains a Public Protection Classification (PPC) rating of 3, which is used in determining property insurance rates.

Fire Chief Doris Langlinais, Jr. has served with the Abbeville Fire Department for more than 28 years. Following the retirement of longtime Fire Chief Jude Mire, Langlinais was appointed Interim Fire Chief in December 2025. In June 2026, he was officially appointed permanent Fire Chief following approval by the Abbeville City Council.

The department’s main station is located at 210 West Vermilion Street, with substations on Veterans Memorial Drive, Joffre Street, and Maude Avenue.

Chief of Police · Mike Hardy

The Abbeville Police Department serves the community through law enforcement, crime prevention, and public safety services.
Chief of Police Mike Hardy previously served as Abbeville’s Police Chief from 1990 to 2002. He continued his career in law enforcement, including service with the Maurice Police Department and as a reserve officer in Abbeville during his brother Tony Hardy’s tenure as Police Chief from 2010 to 2018.

Chief Hardy returned to lead the Abbeville Police Department following his election in 2022. He was reelected in May 2026 to serve his fifth term as Chief of Police.

Sheriff · Eddie Langlinais

Sheriff Eddie Langlinais began his law enforcement career in 1981 as a patrol deputy at the Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office and was promoted to patrol sergeant soon after. Three short years later, he was given the opportunity by the newly elected Vermilion Parish Sheriff Ray LeMaire to work as a patrol lieutenant at the Vermilion Parish Sheriff’s Office, where he remained until he was presented with the opportunity to serve as a Deputy United States Marshal.

In October of 1991, after a 3-year hiring process, Sheriff Langlinais was one of only two people from Louisiana offered a position with the United States Marshals. He accepted this rare opportunity to serve at the highest level of law enforcement in our great nation, the federal level, and spent the next 24-plus years with the United States Marshals.
