The City of Abbeville is proud to share some exciting news: we’ve been awarded the Community Achievement Award for Outstanding Community Improvement in Community Development at the 88th Annual Louisiana Municipal Association (LMA) Conference!
This prestigious recognition was awarded for our Downtown Street Improvement Project—a transformative initiative that reimagined the heart of Abbeville. While it began as a road and infrastructure upgrade, it quickly evolved into a much broader community-driven effort that prioritized safety, accessibility, walkability, and beautification.
Some of the standout features of the project include:
Traffic calming measures to improve pedestrian safety
Walkability upgrades like enhanced sidewalks and crossings
A stunning brick plaza in front of the historic courthouse
Custom crosswalks that honor Abbeville’s cultural and historical heritage
The results are more than visual—this project has made downtown Abbeville more accessible, welcoming, and reflective of the pride our community has in its shared spaces.
We extend heartfelt congratulations to Mayor Roslyn White, the City Council, our hardworking city staff, volunteers, and the many community partners who brought this vision to life. Your passion and dedication helped turn an ambitious plan into a shining example of progress.
This award belongs to all of Abbeville—thank you for believing in a better, more vibrant downtown!
