Governor Jeff Landry joined state, federal and local leaders in Abbeville Tuesday for the announcement of Starbase, Louisiana, a $100 billion SpaceX development planned for Vermilion Parish.
Louisiana Economic Development estimates the project will create 3,000 direct new jobs over the next 10 years, along with more than 8,100 additional indirect jobs across Acadiana.
As the parish seat of Vermilion Parish and the host community for Tuesday’s announcement, Abbeville is now looking ahead to what an investment of this size could mean for our residents, businesses and community.
New jobs and economic activity throughout Vermilion Parish could create new opportunities for local workers and contractors, bring additional customers to Abbeville businesses and increase demand for housing and services within the city.
For the City of Abbeville, the announcement also highlights the importance of preparing for future growth. As Starbase, Louisiana moves forward, the City will continue looking at infrastructure, services and other community needs while working to make sure Abbeville is positioned to benefit from new opportunities throughout Vermilion Parish.

It is with great excitement and pride that I share some wonderful news for our community — SpaceX will soon be joining us right here in Vermilion Parish.
This is more than just a new business arrival; it is a milestone in our city’s journey toward innovation, opportunity, and growth. SpaceX’s presence will bring not only high-quality jobs, but also educational partnerships, technological advancements, and inspiration for our next generation of dreamers and doers.
