Graceland Project: Enhancing Our Community One Step at a Time
The City of Abbeville is making great strides in improving infrastructure, and one of the most exciting developments is the Graceland Ave Sidewalk and Overlay Project. This initiative is set to enhance pedestrian accessibility and road conditions along Graceland Avenue, spanning from N. State Street to Lyman Street. Funded through the State Overlay Project Funding Grant, this project is a testament to our commitment to progress and community betterment.
In June, the Abbeville City Council awarded the contract for the Graceland Project, paving the way for significant infrastructure improvements. Residents were informed that work would soon begin, promising newly constructed sidewalks and a full overlay of the existing road. This project aimed to provide a safer, smoother experience for both pedestrians and drivers, setting the stage for a more accessible and modernized area.
Graceland Project has officially kicked off! The culverts have been delivered, and crews are working hard, laying them in the ditches from State Street to Lyman along Graceland.
By December, the Graceland Project was well underway, with visible transformations taking shape. The installation of ADA-compliant sidewalks, new culverts, and the groundwork for a fresh road overlay marked major milestones. The first section of sidewalks was successfully poured, moving the project one step closer to completion.
At this stage, the city outlined the next steps:
Fast forward to February, and the Graceland Project is entering its final phase of the sidewalk installation. Crews are ensuring all pathways comply with ADA standards to improve accessibility for all residents. Additionally, drain covers will be installed, addressing important safety and drainage concerns.
Once sidewalks are completed, crews will transition to milling and overlaying the entire road from State Street to Lyman Street. This final stage will provide a smooth, durable road surface, making travel safer and more efficient for motorists and pedestrians alike.
Infrastructure projects like the Graceland Project take time, effort, and patience, and we are incredibly grateful for the community’s support throughout this process. The improvements to Graceland Avenue will benefit residents for years to come, creating a safer and more accessible environment for all.
Stay tuned for further updates as we approach the finish line on this transformative project. Abbeville’s future is bright, and together, we are making meaningful strides toward progress!
