Abbeville, LA — The City of Abbeville Permitting Department is notifying contractors and residents of an important change to state licensing requirements that will impact residential roofing work beginning in 2026.
Effective January 1, 2026, the Louisiana State Licensing Board for Contractors (LSLBC) will require a Residential Roofing License for any individual or company performing roofing work on residential structures where the project value is $7,500 or more.
Under the new requirements, only contractors holding one of the following licenses will be permitted to bid on or perform residential roofing work:
Contractors holding a Home Improvement License will not be allowed to bid on or perform any roofing or structural work under this updated requirement.
This change is intended to ensure residential roofing work meeting the $7,500 threshold is completed by appropriately licensed contractors in accordance with state law.
Contractors are strongly encouraged to review the official notice from the Louisiana State Licensing Board for Contractors for full details regarding the new Residential Roofing License and its requirements.
