Abbeville Proud: Local Talent Shines on Grammy-Winning Album

On Tuesday February 3, the City of Abbeville proudly honored Eric Adcock for an incredible accomplishment that highlights the cultural talent and musical influence rooted right here in our community.

Eric played piano on the all-star album A Tribute to the King of Zydeco, which recently won the GRAMMY Award for Best Regional Roots Music Album, the highest honor in music. The album pays tribute to Clifton Chenier, the King of Zydeco, on what would have been his 100th birthday. Chenier’s music helped carry Louisiana culture to audiences around the world, and his influence continues to shape generations of musicians.

What makes this Grammy win even more meaningful is that the heart of the album—the core band—was made up largely of homegrown Louisiana musicians. Eric helped shape the sound through his piano work, proudly representing Abbeville on the world stage alongside artists rooted in the same traditions, sounds, and stories that define our region.

Another remarkable part of this story is that much of the album was recorded just a few miles up the Vermilion River at Dockside Studio. Dockside has been a creative home for legendary artists for decades, and with this win, the studio celebrates its 14th GRAMMY Award, a powerful reminder that world-class music is being created right here in South Louisiana.

Produced by Valcour Records, the album features an extraordinary lineup of legendary and contemporary artists from Louisiana and beyond. A Tribute to the King of Zydeco includes performances by The Rolling Stones, Lucinda Williams, Steve Earle, Charley Crockett, Keith Frank, C.J. Chenier, Marcia Ball, Nathan Williams, Anthony Dopsie, Tommy McLain, and many others, all coming together to honor Clifton Chenier’s lasting legacy.

Eric shared how meaningful it was to be part of a project created by musicians who “drink from the same well of inspiration,” coming together with genuine love and respect for the culture.

Beyond the Grammy itself, this album continues to support the future of Louisiana music. All proceeds benefit the Clifton Chenier Memorial Scholarship Fund, which provides annual financial assistance to students studying traditional music—specifically Zydeco accordion—at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette.

This recognition is about more than an award. It is about culture, legacy, and the power of local talent coming together to honor a global icon. We are incredibly proud to have Eric Adcock representing Abbeville and showing the world that excellence lives right here.
