Mission Statement

In partnership with our citizens, Abbeville Parks and Recreation Department strives in providing our community with safe, clean, and accessible parks and facilities; along with diverse recreation and leisure opportunities that will enhance the overall quality of life for current residents, visitors and future generations.

The Vision

To provide parks and recreation programming and opportunities that serve all ages of citizens in Abbeville and Vermilion Parish with recreation, leisure and social outlets.

Reserving use of a Park

Magdalen Square

  • This is a great space to have a wedding or other event.
  • Contact City Hall to schedule your date.
  • There is no fee, but a set of rules must be signed and followed to use the square.

A.A. Comeaux Park

To reserve the use of A.A. Comeaux Park’s pavilions, including access to the bathroom and water.

  • Contact the Parks and Recreation Department at 337-898-4242.
  • You’ll need to schedule a date and sign an agreement along with a  small refundable deposit.

Abbeville Parks

AA Comeaux Park

One of Abbeville’s largest and most active community parks serves as a hub for recreation, sports, and family fun. The park is open daily from 7:00 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. and offers amenities and activities for all ages.

A.A. Comeaux Park is home to turf baseball and softball fields that regularly host travel ball tournaments as well as a recreational league through QSA Sports. The park also features soccer fields, tennis and pickleball courts, a skateboard park, and a walking path for everyday use.

Families can enjoy multiple children’s play areas, shaded pavilions, and a popular splash pad open during summer hours from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Additional amenities include a recreation center, restrooms, a rental hall, shuffleboard courts, and access to the Boys & Girls Club, making Williams Park a true gathering place for the community year-round.

Abbeville R.V. Park

Tucked beneath a shady canopy of mature trees, our peaceful RV park offers the perfect blend of nature and comfort. With spacious RV spots surrounded by greenery, guests can relax and unwind in a serene woodland setting. A gently winding walking trail invites visitors to take a stroll, stretch their legs, or simply enjoy the fresh air.

The park features convenient amenities including a dump station, a small clubhouse for casual gatherings, and is proudly dog-friendly, so your four-legged friends are always welcome. Whether you’re staying for the weekend or an extended retreat, this hidden gem offers a quiet escape with all the essentials to make your visit enjoyable.

Gertie Huntsberry Park

Gertie Park is a quiet neighborhood park designed for simple, everyday enjoyment. Open daily from 7:00 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., the park offers a relaxed setting for families, walkers, and anyone looking to spend time outdoors.

A walking trail with workout and stretching stations encourages light exercise at your own pace, while picnic tables provide shaded spots to rest or enjoy a meal. The park also features a children’s play area, making it a welcoming space for families and young visitors. Gertie Park is a great place to move, play, or unwind in a comfortable neighborhood setting.

Godchaux Park

Godchaux Park is a welcoming neighborhood park that offers a peaceful place to relax and enjoy the outdoors. Open daily from 7:00 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., the park is ideal for casual visits, family time, and quiet moments in nature.

A walking trail winds through the park beneath mature trees, creating a shaded and comfortable space for strolls. Families will enjoy the children’s play area, while readers of all ages can visit the Little Free Library. With open green space and a dog-friendly atmosphere , Godchaux Park is a great spot to walk, play, read, or simply unwind close to home.

Harmony Park

Harmony Park is a quiet neighborhood space centered around the Harmony Park Community Garden, located at the corner of South Lamar Street and Martin Luther King Drive. This small but welcoming park is a place of beauty and bounty, where visitors can admire flourishing plants and thoughtfully maintained garden beds.

Whether you’re stopping by to appreciate the garden, enjoy the shade, or simply take a moment outdoors, Harmony Park is a calm and inviting community space rooted in growth and togetherness

Herbert Williams Park

A neighborhood park located off Martin Luther King Drive, offering a welcoming space for families, athletes, and visitors to enjoy the outdoors. The park is open daily from 7:00 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., with the baseball field open from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.

The park features a baseball field, children’s play area, grills, a small pavilion, and open green space for casual gatherings. The children’s play area recently received an upgrade, with a rubberized surface replacing traditional mulch, creating a safer, more accessible space for play. Herbert Park is also dog friendly, making it a great spot for the whole family—including four-legged friends.

Named in honor of Herbert Williams, this park continues to serve as an important and well-loved community space.

Lafayette Street Park

Lafayette Street Park is a cozy neighborhood park that offers a simple, welcoming place to relax and play. Open daily from 7:00 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., the park is ideal for quick visits, family time, and everyday outdoor enjoyment.

The park features swings, a tire swing, and a children’s play area, along with a basketball court for casual games. Benches and grills provide comfortable spots to sit, gather, or enjoy a meal outdoors. Dog friendly and easy to enjoy, Lafayette Street Park is a great neighborhood space to unwind, play, and connect.

Lafitte Drive-In Park

Lafitte Park is a peaceful neighborhood park offering open green space, mature trees, and a scenic pond—perfect for a relaxing visit outdoors. A paved walking trail, open daily from 7:00 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., provides an easy route for strolls, fresh air, and enjoying the natural surroundings.

The park features public fishing with an accessible fishing pier, along with a picnic area ideal for casual gatherings or quiet lunches. Additional amenities include a Little Free Library, a dog play area, and plenty of green space to relax or explore. Whether you’re walking, fishing, reading, or spending time with your four-legged friend, Lafitte Park offers a calm and welcoming place for everyone.

Magdalen Square

Magdalen Square sits at the center of downtown Abbeville and serves as a lively gathering place for the community. This inviting park is where residents and visitors come together to relax, connect, and enjoy the charm of the city.

Featuring a classic gazebo, a flowing fountain, and plenty of benches, Magdalen Square is also home to popular events throughout the year. The park regularly hosts farmers markets that being in April – November and Sounds on the Square concert series that happen in the spring and fall each year, filling downtown with live music, local vendors, and a vibrant community atmosphere.

McKinley Scott

McKinley Scott Park is a welcoming park designed with accessibility and community in mind. The park is open daily from 7:00 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., with the basketball court open from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.

The park features both covered and uncovered basketball court with bleachers, a shaded pavilion, grills, bathrooms, and a children’s play area with swings. The playground includes a handicap-accessible merry-go-round and has recently been upgraded with new rubberized surfaces replacing traditional mulch, improving safety and accessibility for all users. Visitors can also enjoy a Little Free Library, offering a quiet spot to read and share books.

McKinley Scott Park continues to be an inclusive and comfortable space for recreation, gatherings, and everyday enjoyment for the community.

Motty Memorial Park

Motty Park is a small pocket park that offers a simple, welcoming space for nearby residents and visitors to enjoy the outdoors. Open daily from 7:00 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., it’s perfect for quick stops, casual play, or a short break outside.

The park features swings, a children’s play area, and a grill, making it ideal for families and neighborhood gatherings. Dog friendly and easy to enjoy, Motty Park provides a quiet, convenient place to relax, play, and spend time outdoors in a cozy neighborhood setting.

Mouton Park/Franks Alley Park

Mouton Park is a welcoming neighborhood park that offers a simple, inclusive space for families and visitors to enjoy the outdoors. Open daily from 7:00 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., the park is ideal for everyday play and short visits.

The park features swings, and play areas for children. The playground includes a handicap-accessible merry-go-round, ensuring children of all abilities have the opportunity to play together. Mouton Park provides a comfortable, community-focused space for outdoor fun close to home.

Parker Hebert Park

Parker Hebert Park is a neighborhood park located along Graceland Avenue, offering a welcoming space for families and everyday recreation. The park is open daily from 7:00 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. and continues to see thoughtful improvements for the surrounding community.

The park features a basketball court, children’s play area, benches, and a small pavilion with a grill and picnic tables. All perfect for casual gatherings. New playground equipment has recently been added, along with new trash receptacles, and the area is being prepped and fitted for additional upgrades planned along Graceland Avenue.

Dog friendly and community-focused, Parker Hebert Park is a growing neighborhood space designed for play, relaxation, and continued improvement.
